Construction Unit at Bangalore was set up in the year 1962 as a part of Southern Railway. It was headed by Engineer-in–Chief(Construction) with Headquarters at Chennai (Egmore). This unit was created mainly to look after various works connected with Mysore Division of Southern Railway and later Bangalore Division (which was created during 1980). Subsequently Head Quarters of the Construction Organisation was shifted to Bangalore Cantonment. This was headed by Chief Administrative Officer/ Construction. Due to establishment of new zones, South Western Railway Zone with headquarters at Hubli came into effect from 01.04.2003 consisting of 3 Divisions i.e. Bangalore, Mysore & Hubli. Consequently, the Construction Organisation at Bangalore Cantonment came under the administrative control of South Western Railway.
